Not that he won't talk to anyone; he's usually just not super talkative..not one to go up and introduce himself to strike up conversation, if he doesn't know you. He's pretty deep, emotionally, but in the face of the public, he brushes it all off, and acts indifferent as he can manage. Most people would probably say that upon first seeing him, they have no desire to talk to him. He looks like a hardass and not the funnest person to be around. It's not true, but do people really ever try to get to know other people? He certainly doesn't think so. It's one of those things where he puts up walls not to keep people out, but to see who's worth it, by seeing who might try to knock them down a little bit. If you do happen to atleast try to get to know him, he's a really cool guy. He's focused, driven, and has a lot of experiences that it wouldn't hurt if he shared.
Still, as indifferent as he might seem, he does have emotions and thoughts that run deep. Holden isn't dumb; in fact, he's incredibly talented. His potential just probably isn't completely tapped -- he picks and chooses the things that he applies himself to. These mostly include things like writing -- journaling, songs, poetry, prose, you name it -- and guitar. He can write with extreme ease and talent: both gorgeous words and some of the most brutal you might ever hope to read. And Holden is completely divine on a guitar: self taught. But most people never see that side of him. If Holden plays for you -- you're special. He doesn't play for anybody but his little sister. Eithe rway, he hopes to apply his love and skill for writing to some kind of career in the English field. He's too reserved to be a journalist but he's heavily considering being an author, if he can find some money in it.
Holden is actually a very sweet person, most of the time. He's extremely slow to anger and has this unrealized desire to give people what he never got; attention, care. He's usually sort of a loner when it comes to long term relationships with girls, but that could change..eventually. If he finds the right one, which he tends to go about in the wrong ways. He always goes for the slutty ones and gets a little heartbreak with his pleasure. He is really quite fearful of attatchment; he'll push you away before he's really able to embrace you. He needs reassurance that he'll never admit he wants. But he's learning. He's a pretty fast learner, in most cases.
And then there's the side of Holden that some might consider a bit less desirable. His quiet personality changes a little when he's drunk or high -- which isn't a rare thing, I might add. He goes through phases of days at a time where he's totally loaded. Initially, it gets him pretty outgoing, a little crazy. He'll talk to anyone and do just about anything. Of course eventually this lands him in medically undesirable states, and at those points, hes worthless, as most people would be. He tries to put off the image that it's all in good fun, and sometimes, he even believes it. But if you look just a little further, it's clear to see it's a coping mechanism.

» PAST; Holden was born and raised in New York. When he was much younger, and an only child, his family lived in the sketchy parts of town. He never went to bed feeling safe in his own home; the blaring emergency sirens kept him up for hours at a time. There was a whorehouse upstairs, a crack house across the street.. and Holden spent his days avoiding windows and keeping to himself. He taught himself to play his father's old guitar, about the only form of entertainment the family could afford.
Holden's father was, quite frankly, a drug dealer. He would leave late at night and sometimes not come home for days. His mother was working at a local liquor store to help with the bills. Holden basically became a latch key kid, going to school, coming straight home, and avoiding leaving at all costs.
When he was eight, his sister was born. Holden was torn between excitement that there was another kid around, and the fact that now his parents' already short energy would be going more toward the new baby than him. He, after all, had received barely any attention as it was. He had to face reality when, two weeks later, his dad was murdered in a drug-related crime. Some guys who didnt pay up got denied their drug of choice, and shots were fired. His dad died instantly: one shot through the chest, the other through the head. Holden never knew when he said goodbye to his father the night before, it was goodbye forever. Though his dad would come and go at random times prior to his death, Holden had a hard time with the murder. He was left as the man of the house at age eight.
His mother was torn apart by the murder, and feeling that she was failing at raising the kids, turned to alcohol abuse. Holden took the best care he could of his sister, but he left as soon as he could get to highschool. His mom was a bit more sober, and he regrets not having stayed to help with Maggie. But by the end of his freshman year, Maggie had been sent to his Aunt's house, and his mom had entered rehab. And that's how things stood; his sister was safe in Arizona (regretably across the country), his father was dead, his mother was in rehab -- and now showing signs of making it out. Of course, that had happened before, and she'd yet to really resurface. Holden doesn't trust her any farther than he can throw her. Needless to say, he harbors a lot of resentment toward her.
Holden's high school years were filled with a lot of smoking and drinking themselves. He hated, still hates himself, for it: he realzies that each time he smokes a joint or hits a bottle of JD's, he's no better than his parents.
So maybe joinging Enchantment '08 wasn't the swiftest move to stay away from that, but it was always Holden's dream to travel, and this was about the only way he could do it, and get paid for it. He always loved guitar but was never one to play, so a guitar tech was the perfect job for him. He's determined to make something of himself, and he eventually wants to take custody of his sister, to finish raising her himself. Still, that hasn't exactly stopped him from partying. Sometimes it's in good fun but more often than not he uses it as a coping mechanism. Maybe he's reached his mid-life crisis a bit early.
