It's not an overdone kind of arrogance; in fact, Erik is very aware of the issue. It's not even a front; it's just that he can't completely help it. He's constantly trying to keep a good, level head on his shoulders, but it's hard, you know? When you sell this many records, sound this good on stage, and look this gorgeous doing it, it's bound to go to your head, atleast a little bit.
Erik is smart. He graduated high school with honors, even if his main interest had always been in music. He would do his homework, but most of his spare time had been spent writing or playing his guitar. He liked to party, too, even at that young age. Sometimes, when his smaller group of friends would hang out, he'd bring his guitar and play and sing for everyone. Everyone had always loved it -- especially the girls. There was something about a cute boy who could write a love song, you know? He always had on that adorbale smile of his, even when sometimes, he felt like his world was crumbling around him.
Erik knows a thing or two about manners and respect, he's very polite, but he's let the whole band thing get to him a little. He used to be the kind that was deathly afraid of girls; now he's the kind who isn't completely horrified of one night stands and flings. If anything, the band has boosted his confidence a little more than he needed. Where he used to be shy and too nervous to approach you, he's gotten pretty loud, and really doesn't care what you think about him. Plus, he picked up a few less than desirable habits. He got a little bit into the drug scene; he's not a complete addict but he sees no reason to quit, either, which would be out of character for anyone who knew Erik in highschool. He also likes to drik, but doesn't all of this come with the band-guy label? Seems terribly cliche. So what is it that really makes Erik, Erik?
That sweet, sensitive side isn't unsalvagable. Maybe all he needs is someone who needs to see it, for it to show back up. » LIKES; [x] Guitar [x] Skating [x] Having fun [x] socializing [x] the beach [x] meeting new people [x] drinking [x] girls [x] peach snapple. » PAST; Erik was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though most people think bright lights and sins when they consider Las Vegas, the actual surrounding communities were fairly quiet, and the backdrop of Erik's youth. His family wasn't particularly wealthy, but most certainly not bad off, either. Erik never went to bed hungry or feeling unsafe or anything of that sort. They lived in a comfortable two story home with desert landscaping and a black bottom pool that was almost never below seventy degrees.
He was always the kind of kid to have more friends than phone numbers he could memorize. He spent his days outside of school skating, riding bikes, learning guitar, and just hanging out with friends. He was always a pretty good kid, never got caught up in the "wrong crowd" or anything like that. That good influence was mostly brought on by his older brother Matt, who was 3 years Erik's elder. He completely idolized Matt. He was smart, handsome, funny, and so enjoyable to be around..everything that Erik wanted to be. Matt was the kind of kid that made parents and family proud, that had the smartest and most beautiful girlfriends, that never needed to answer to anyone but himself. It was that confidence and self assurance that Erik sought so heavily when he was younger; he wanted to be exactly like Matt.
The family moved to Southern California and everything was good for Erik's freshman year. He was with Matt more than ever --they wern't just brothers, they were best friends. They did everything together, and they had this unspeakable bond that anybody could see. Nobody knew them as "Matt" or "Erik". It was usually just "The Reese Brothers".
But one fateful day when Erik was 15, the summer after Erik's freshman year, everything changed. Erik and Matt were driving alone to go visit their uncle upstate.. their car was hit by an eighteen wheeler that had lost control on the highway. It flew off and embankment, and the boys were pinned in the overturned car. The eighteen wheeler caught fire, and Matt was killed almost instantly; he stayed concious just long enough to tell Erik he loved him, and he was gone. Erik still battles with that fateful day, wishing it had been he that died and not his brother. He thinks it was unfair, and he blames himself. But few people get to know or see that side of Erik.
Erik missed Matt more than anything; he still does. After that, he inverted into himself a bit; into his music. Though his brother was gone, it was a bit of a blessing in disguise for Erik. In order to become more like Matt, he had to let him go a little. And so, when Erik was twenty, he signed to SBR, and all of the confidence he imagined Matt to have had was his. It wasn't the kind of attention Matt would have liked by any means, but Erik is learning to live life on his own terms, with his own goals.
