» PAST; Maya Dunst and Jackson Armstrong were married when they were 21 years old and finishing up college. They had met when Jackson’s dog, Sprout, had broken free from his leash and had ran through the university campus. At the duck pond, he tackled Maya and sent her plundering through the sticky layer of foam and into the cold water itself. It was only two feet deep, so Sprout didn’t deal a lot of damage. Jackson ran into the pond to help the woman up, but failed at his attempt to smoothly run in and instead slipped and fell into the water as well. As soon as they had both picked themselves up, Jackson apologized to her over and over again for an hour, even after she told him it was completely fine. They sat on the bench next to the pond and dried off Sprout, and talked to eachother as they did so. For two hours they sat and talked, and eventually scheduled a coffee date for the following Saturday.
After that Saturday, they kept dating. They dated for two years until they were both twenty-one. Jackson proposed to Maya and they were married six months later. Their wedding was a huge one, with all their friends and family. A month after the wedding night, Maya confirmed that she was pregnant with their first child. Nine months later, Aspen Marie was the first baby out. They chose her name because Jackson's grandmother's name was Aspen, and she had passed away a week before she was born. Marie just seemed to fit perfectly with Aspen. The new family lived in a house in California, just sixty miles south of a city. The house was set right off the shore of a lake, and the Armstrongs bought that lake a year after they moved in. Now they had at least four acres to themselves, and lived in the huge victorian style house.
Jackson returned to work a couple of weeks after Aspen was born. He'd drive sixty miles to go to his work place, and for eight hours he'd stay there and take care of animals, which was, of course, his job. This routine stayed for three years until Maya was pregnant with her second baby girl. Jackson continued his work until a week before Adelaide was born, and they sat around that week and discussed the name. Maya had always wanted to name her child Adelaide, because she had a childhood friend who passed away when Maya was twelve, and her name was Addie. The two had some difficulties when they came to the middle name - what sounded good with Adelaide? It was raining that day, and when Maya noticed that, she just said rain. She didn't mean for it to be a middle name, but Jackson realized it sounded perfect.
Adelaide Raine Armstrong was born on August Fourth, 1988, exactly a week after her name was decided. There were no complications in the birth(except for the pain), and Maya and Jackson took home their second healthy baby two days later. They both made sure to pay attenton to Adelaide but also pay attention to Aspen, because they wanted to try hard not to leave Aspen out and let her go through her envious stage. If she had any jealousy like Maya's, it was sure to get ugly. Addie learned to walk when she was eleven months old, and learned to talk when she was fifteen months old. She could only speak a few basic words, but when she was two years and one month, she could talk very well. The only problem her parents noticed was she stuttered and winced a lot when she was being introduced, or when she was playing with a new playmate. Still, Maya, Jackson, and Aspen decided it didn't matter, because they still loved her all the same.
And so, Adelaide spent her first four years of life on that lake without any problems from anyone. She and her sister would play dress up with eachother, would bake cookies in their little kitchen, and would run around outside and play tag or hide and go seek together. They were best friends, and had pledged to remain best friends for their entire lives. When Addie was four, she started preschool. Her parents had decided to put her in preschool only because they knew she needed help with her stutter, and the preschool had a speech therapist who was supposedly very good at what she did. Addie was very nervous at first, and shyed away from the other children, because she was scared they might poke fun of her. She visited the speech therapist three times a week for an hour each visit, but her parents never really noticed a change in her stutter. Still, they kept sending her to a speech therapist, even when preschool was over. For three years this went on until Adelaide was in third grade and was almost breaking out of her shell. When she felt calm, she was perfectly able to talk, but when she was nervous or scared or upset, she stuttered like there was no tomorrow.
The teasing never really began until fourth grade. And when it did, Adelaide quietly crawled back into her shell, but followed her sister around everywhere. Her sister was in sixth grade at the time, and Adelaide knew when she was around her, no one would dare make fun of her, because they knew that Aspen wouldn't deal with it. However, when Addie wasn't with Aspen, she did get teased. She'd just stand there and let them talk and stare down at her feet. She kept her head low so that no one could see she was crying, and when they never stopped, she'd run and grab onto her teacher's leg and cry. On the playground, though, no one even dared to come near Addie, after what Aspen did to the last kid who made fun of her(she threw a rock in his stomach).
The amount of teasing didn't decrease until freshman year, and Addie never learned to take up for herself. She was still very shy around people until she got to know them and was confident that they wouldn't make fun of her, no matter how she sounded. When she did feel safe, she was very talkative and hyper. Adelaide went through her teenage years just like all the other girls she knew - she slowly began to dislike herself, and actually covered all the mirrors up in her room so she wouldn't have to look. She was ashamed of herself, and until Aspen sat down and gave her a pep talk, she remained ashamed of herslf. Still, even after Aspen tried to talk her out of it, Addie didn't really like herself. She wasn't the one who went through the depression years, though. No, that was Aspen, and after experiencing that first hand, Aspen never let her little sister feel the way she had when she was her age. Aspen was always looking out for her, no matter what.
When Addie was fifteen, she began to realize she really liked to sing. Whenever her parents were too busy with her little brother, Raymond, Addie would sit in her room and sing to whatever she felt like. Sometimes, it was the Beatles, others, the Spice Girls, and so on and so forth. She actually taught herself to sing, and her voice became very good. She'd walk around singing even in school, and she realized it was one of the only times when she felt calm. Singing really helped her. Not only did Adelaide like to sing, but she also loved guitar. Her father would play it for her soemtimes, and when she was sixteen, her father began to give her lessons on the bass. Within a year she was mastering it. On her sister's nineteenth birthday, Addie was in her room cleaning it top to bottom for her, so she didn't have to. When she got to her sock drawer, she realized they were unpaired, and she dumped the drawer out and began to pair them until she realized there was something in there that didn't look like a sock at all. No, it was actually a black pistol. Addie freaked out and shoved it in her hoodie pocket before she ran out and threw it in the lake, as far as she could. She waited for thirty minutes to make sure it wouldn't wash up on shore, and then returned to her house. She was just in time for her sister's party.
After that night, Addie was always watching her sister and making sure she wasn't doing anything stupid. When she realized her sister was completely fine, Addie continued with her own life, and graduated when she was seventeen years old. She was in a band called Don't Call Me Baby, and was the bassist and back up vocals. She was always expecting that the would hit it big time, and that was exactly what happened. Their popularity increased and they had more and more photoshoots, interviews, and such. When Adelaide was twenty, they started the tour, and she left her family back in California. At first, she called them every day, but when she became too busy for calls, she would email them everyday late at night, when no one could bother her. She was, of course, very homesick at first, but that homesickness faded away as the tour continued on. Still, every now and then Addie does get homesick, and wants nothing more than to go back home and swim in her lake, knowing her family are just a few yards away. Addie does plan to never give up on the band, even if the times get hard. She doesn't want to give up or let the band down, and hopes the band stays together for a while. Addie is having fun on the tour, and hopes to go on many more tours after this one.
THOUGH SHE WOULD NEVER ADMIT IT to anyone but herself, aurora knew she was a horrible, horrible person. she had done a ton of things she wasn't proud of lately, but she also felt like there was no changing the majority of things she had done, because the majority of things she had done were all because of one person: nikolas. actually, if you wanted to think back a little farther, it was basically her fault all this shit had happened. she should have known how she felt about him when he had told her he loved her, and secretly, she did; she was just too shocked to say anything at the time he had told her. she had never expected him to say those three words to her, ever, and yet, he had. she was always basically sure the only thing he really wanted her for was her bod, and they often told eachother that when they got into their arguments. for four years, they knew eachother, and for four years, nearly every encounter they had ended badly. sure, lots of them would start out with just a simple question about math or the other one's mood, and later maybe a quick make out session behind the dormitories, and then with kissing, came screaming. no, not that kind of screaming. screaming that happened because of unmeasurable anger. yet somehow, through all their silly arguments and heated make out sessions, roro had fallen for the very man she couldn't stand. she never thought he would tell her that he loved her, so she thought she was never going to tell him she loved him. what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him, right? so she had kept her mouth shut, and that night that he had screamed at her and told her he loved her - she was pretty much caught off guard. she could barely speak at all, and when he got offensive, she got defensive. that was the last argument they had had, the last thing he had called her was a bitch and the last thing she had called him was a bastard, and after that, they hadn't spoken since. nobody had any idea how much guilt that brought to her, because nobody knew. aurora claimed to be too secretive to talk about it with anyone. no one knew about nikolas, and the way she had planned to handle it was to keep it all a secret.
KEEPING EVERYTHING A SECRET often became too difficult, though, and the pressure and shame from being the reason of someone's death got too much for aurora too handle. that was why she had snuck off to the girls' restrooms for a quick therapy session. she had to keep everything on the down low these days. people thought she was just some stupid skanky bitch who didn't care about anything or anyone or who she hurt, and they were almost right. true, roro was a bitch, but she wasn't always this way. she used to be really nice and intelligent and only a tad bit bitchy, but that was before nik overdosed. honestly, she was too afraid of hurting people like she had hurt nik, so she developed a tough shell. she didn't want anyone to like her, she didn't want anyone to fall in love with her. she wanted people to think she was a bitch who needed to die so that she wouldn't have to hurt anyone ever again. true, she knew the things she said could hurt people, but she didn't want to hurt anyone's heart. not like she had apparently damaged nikolas. wow, that sounded completely and utterly corny. roro kept her eyes on her sketch book and the piece of paper with the black markings, even when she could see out of the corner of her eyes that somebody was standing in front of her. she didn't care who it was - whoever it was, they would probably get the hint and leave her the fuck alone. she kept ignoring the person even when they put their bags down, and was hoping to god inside her head that it wasn't somebody who hoped to get into some kind of fight. today was not her day, and she was not in the mood to kick someone's ass. ahahaha. but when the supposed stranger spoke up and said her name, her hand that was carefully sliding along the paper froze, along with the rest of her anatomy. she still hadn't looked up, and though she could hear his voice rather clearly, she didn't want to believe that a man she was in love with and thought to be dead was standing in front of her, telling her they needed to talk. they needed to talk? more like roro needed to seek mental assistance immediately if she was really hearing his voice and seeing his feet.
HER CHOCOLATE BROWN EYES SLOWLY lifted up to stare at him. no, not into his eyes - just about anywhere else she could look that didn't involve his eyes. and no, not his pants either, in case you were thinking that. she blinked and put her hands in fists, holding them both up to her eyes and rubbing them for a moment. there was no way that he was standing in front of her. not after all that shit. not after an irresponsible dosage of sleeping pills. pale and shaking a little, aurora moved her sketch book off her lap and carefully lay the piece of charcoal on top of it. then she stood up from the bench, her knees almost buckling as she did so. this had to be some creepy dream, didn't it? she had to wake up any moment now, right? she flattened her hands and rose them to cup his slim and handsome face in them, her eyes looking all over him. there really was no more clarification that she needed - his voice, and she could actually touch him - he definitely was alive. "you absolute dick!" and, with no further proof needed, roro very quickly pulled her arm back, clenching her right hand into a fist while her left hand still cupped his face. then she launched her fist forward, right into his arm. yeah, weak, i know. if nikolas was any other guy, she would have shoved his brain into his nose, but that was just the thing - he wasn't just some other guy. and that was what refrained her from going for the face. he probably couldn't tell that she was being merciful, since she was glaring at him and her skin was going from pale white, to its normal tan color, then to a crimson red.
